10月20日——23日，班戈大学两位副校长Oliver Turnbull教授（主管教学和质量监控）和CarolTully教授（主管学生工作和后勤事务）将来我院访问，期间，除了跟中南林业科技大学校领导和班戈学院开展多项会谈之外，两位教授还将于10月21日晚上7点在学校图书馆报告厅为全校师生乃至全省高校师生员工献上两场精彩的学术讲座。
两场学术讲座基本信息如下：

【讲座摘要】过去的几十年中我们对情绪的大脑基础的理解，特别是对正面情绪的理解有了很大的进展。这使得我们区分智力层面和动机方面的情绪过程成为可能，并且使我们在更深层面领会正面情绪的“需要”与“喜欢”（或者是“欲望”与“完美”两个方面），以及领会我们如何在决定和信念方面使用这些信息。这次讲座清晰地说明，从科学的角度来看，“幸福”是一个复杂的问题，但也清楚地说明现代神经科学对此研究已经有了很大的进展。这次讲座是围绕着1500年前居住在班戈附近的威尔士爱情守护神St Dwynwen展开，该研究在现代爱情和幸福方面传递了重要信息。

The neuroscience of positive emotion
The past few decades have seen great advances in our understanding of the brain basis of emotion, and positive emotion in particular. This has made it possible to separate out the process that lie beneath the intellectual versus motivational aspects of emotion, and at a deeper level allow us to understand the wanting versus liking aspects of positive emotion (desire versus consummation), and how we use of this information in our decisions and our beliefs. This talk makes it clear that 'happiness' is a complex problem to address scientifically, but that modern neuroscience has made great progress. The lecture is framed around Wales’ patron Saint of love, St Dwynwen, who lived close to Bangor 1500 years ago, and has an unexpected and important message about modern love and happiness.

CarolTully，博士，教授，语言学家，博士生导师，英国班戈大学副校长，主管学生工作及后勤保障等事务。Carol Tully教授对19世纪欧洲文化交流方面的研究享誉世界，她特别注重对威尔士文化、德国和西班牙文化等领域的研究。目前，Carol Tully教授正主持研究“赴威尔士的欧洲旅行者游记”，参与该研究项目的人员分别来自英国斯旺西大学、威尔士和凯尔特研究中心等多个高校和研究机构，并获得英国社科基金（AHRC）提供的42万英镑的资助。

【摘要原文】European Travellers to Wales --Historical Views of a Celtic Nation
This talk will introduce a major research project, led by Bangor University and funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council. The aim of this interdisciplinary and collaborative project is to uncover and evaluate hitherto unstudied travel accounts written by European travellers to Wales from 1750 to 2010. This important area of study has been neglected, but is central to our understanding of European intercultural relations, the development of Welsh identity and the establishment of the tourist industry in Wales. The proposed study will serve as a case study to help further understand issues relating to hegemonic / minority and/or periphery / periphery relations. Within the vibrant field of travel writing, Wales has often suffered neglect. Even where there is interest in travel to 'Celtic' nations, Wales has often been overlooked in both the artistic and critical imaginations in favour of Scotland and Ireland. From the mid-eighteenth century, which saw the emergence of the travel narrative as a popular source of information and entertainment, writing about Wales has often been embedded in accounts of travel to 'England'. The current project seeks to redefine perceptions of Wales by problematising the notion of 'invisibility' often ascribed to the Welsh context and by broadening perspectives outwards to encompass European perceptions. This will realign the current debate which has centred primarily on English travellers to Wales. The project will challenge the way in which travel writing studies conceives of 'minority cultures' by analysing relations between smaller nations (Wales / Brittany). The study will examine European perceptions of Wales from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century, and seek to identify their impact on developing Welsh cultural identity. Professor Tully will focus in this talk on her own work on German travellers to North Wales.
